How to Write a Processing Plant Operator Resume
Processing plant operators play a critical role in mining operations — but many undersell their experience on paper. Here's how to write a resume that reflects the true scope of your skills.
The Processing Plant Operator Role
Processing plant operators are responsible for running the equipment and systems that transform raw ore into saleable product. It's a technically demanding role that requires a strong understanding of plant systems, safety protocols, and process optimisation. Yet many operators struggle to convey the full scope of their experience on a resume.
Specify the Types of Plants You've Worked In
Processing plants vary significantly depending on the commodity and operation. Be specific about your experience:
- Crushing and screening plants: Primary, secondary, and tertiary crushing; vibrating screens; conveyor systems
- Flotation circuits: Reagent dosing, froth management, concentrate handling
- Heap leach and CIL/CIP circuits: Common in gold processing; solution management, carbon handling
- Magnetic separation and gravity circuits: Used in iron ore and mineral sands processing
- Thickeners, filters, and tailings systems: Dewatering and tailings management
List the Equipment You've Operated
Employers want to know exactly what you've worked with. Include:
- Crusher types and manufacturers (e.g. Metso, Sandvik, Terex)
- Screen types and sizes
- Pump types (centrifugal, slurry, HDPE)
- Control systems (e.g. DCS, SCADA, PLC — specify the platform if you know it)
Quantify Your Achievements
Numbers make your resume stand out. Consider including:
- Throughput rates (tonnes per hour or per day)
- Plant availability and uptime percentages
- Recovery rates achieved or improved
- Incident-free periods
- Any process improvements you contributed to
Highlight Safety and Compliance
Processing plants are high-hazard environments. Your resume should demonstrate your commitment to safety:
- Experience with LOTO (lockout/tagout) and permit to work systems
- Hazard identification and risk assessment
- Emergency response procedures
- Any safety leadership roles or contributions
Shift Work and Reliability
Processing plants run 24/7. Employers value operators who are reliable, punctual, and comfortable with rotating shift work. If you have a strong attendance record, mention it.
