The Healthcare Job Market in Australia

Australia's healthcare sector is booming — but so is competition. Whether you're a Registered Nurse, Enrolled Nurse, or Allied Health professional, your resume needs to do more than list your qualifications. It needs to tell a story of competent, compassionate care.

Start With a Strong Professional Summary

Your summary is the first thing a Nurse Unit Manager reads. In 3–4 sentences, cover:

• Your registration type (RN, EN, etc.) and years of experience
• Your clinical specialisation (e.g. Emergency, ICU, Aged Care, Paediatrics)
• A key achievement or strength
• What you're looking for in your next role

Example: "Registered Nurse with 7 years of experience in acute care and emergency settings across metropolitan and regional Queensland hospitals. Skilled in triage, trauma response, and patient-centred care. Seeking a senior clinical role where I can contribute to team leadership and quality improvement initiatives."

List Your AHPRA Registration Clearly

Your AHPRA registration number should appear prominently — ideally in your contact details or professional summary section. Employers will check it, so make it easy to find.

Highlight Clinical Skills Relevant to the Role

Don't use a generic skills list. Tailor it to the unit or facility you're applying to. For example:

• Emergency: Triage, trauma assessment, IV cannulation, ECG interpretation
• ICU: Ventilator management, haemodynamic monitoring, CRRT
• Aged Care: Dementia care, palliative care, wound management, medication administration
• Community: Chronic disease management, health education, care planning

Include Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Australian nurses are required to complete CPD hours for AHPRA renewal. Listing recent CPD activities shows you're committed to your professional growth. Include course names, providers, and dates for the last 2–3 years.

Address Selection Criteria If Required
